The poll commission said on Thursday that elections for 57 Rajya Sabha seats across 15 states will be held on June 10.

Members are retiring between June and August, therefore these seats are up for election every two years.

In Karnataka and Maharashtra, seats vacated by Nirmala Sitharaman of the BJP and P Chidambaram of the Congress will be contested.

The electoral commission stated that the notification will be released on May 27, the deadline for nominations is May 31, and that the scrutiny will take place on June 1. Polling will take place on June 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the counting of votes starting at 5 p.m. on the same day.

From June through August, the terms of 57 Rajya Sabha members elected from 15 states will expire.
There are 11 from Uttar Pradesh, six from Maharashtra, five from Bihar, four from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Rajasthan, three from Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, two each from Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Jharkhand, and Haryana, and one from Uttarakhand.

The Commission further stated that all persons should observe the Broad Guidelines of Covid-19 published by it, wherever appropriate, throughout the entire election process.

While making plans for the election, the Chief Secretaries of all 15 states have been ordered to delegate a senior officer to ensure that the existing directives regarding Covid-19 containment measures are followed the poll panel added.
